Our afternoon was filled with music and dance and many memories of the Christmas story. With the help of Residents, volunteers, family members, Associates and our Chaplin Fr. Jacob, our Christmas play, “A Christmas Story with St. Joseph” was a success!
All started out on the piano with Dolores, 102 years of age, who played “Las Posadas” to lead us to the play on St. Joseph.
The play spoke of his life, his dedication and love of God throughout his life. A young volunteer played St. Joseph, learning the carpentry trade and to pray the psalms. Later the play showed St. Joseph as a young man who was to marry Mary. The parts of Mary and Joseph were played by Maria and Thomas who are new to the Home and are from Shanghai. They did a wonderful job for their “first time on the stage.”
The shepherds and kings also performed well, showing the true meaning of Christmas.
One of the family members of a Resident sang Silent Night in English and Croatian, followed by Maria and Thomas who sang it in Mandarin, their native tongue. It brought much joy to the audience, to sing so beautifully!
Following the play and the choir were several young people from the San Pedro City Ballet who danced from the Nutcracker Suite. We were privileged to have these young people, who had performed in the Nutcracker last week in San Pedro.
