Although the weather was not cooperative and our plans had to change to an indoor activity, our day with the Marymount College student volunteers was a wonderful experience. Upon their arrival we shared the philosophy and mission of the Little Sisters of the Poor and arranged for a tour of the Home. Then it was off to work. The students worked in our dining rooms cleaning the chairs and table bases. After this was completed they tackled the cleaning and polishing of Residents’ walkers and wheelchairs. According to Mary Castro, “My walker is now as shiny as a new penny!”
Meeting and talking with the Residents and learning about life in our Home were the best part of the day according to the students. They are excited about returning next year to provide another day of service for our Home and Residents. We, as well, look forward to their return!
