May 1 was a very special day at the Little Sisters of the Poor in San Pedro. We celebrated Sr. Winefrid’s 70th anniversary of her profession of vows as a Little Sister.
The day of celebration began with a special Mass in her honor where she was able to renew her vows. After Mass, the celebration continued with a party in the auditorium. The theme of the party was country western and included a special square dance performance by the “Boots & Bows” and “Honeycombers” square dance clubs. After an impressive display of their square dance talents, they each grabbed partners from the audience and gave a square dance class. And equally impressive was the employee line dance group performing to “Achy, Breaky Heart” and other country western tunes. We never knew we had such talent in our Home.
Sr. Winefrid’s niece, Sandy, came from Alabama and her great niece, Jenny, and husband, Matthew, came from Cypress, California, to help her celebrate. Two other longtime friends and benefactors, Mr. & Mrs. Charles Leimbach and Mr. and Mrs. Damien Kermit were also here for the festivities.
The celebration was also well attended by Residents, employees and volunteers.
