World Day of the Sick Healing & Anointing Mass
The early morning downpour and midday showers did not dampen our spirits as we eagerly attended the Annual Mass & Anointing of the Sick in observance of World Day of the Sick and the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes at the Cathedral of the Our Lady of Angels in downtown Los Angeles, Saturday, February 9.
Every year the Order of Malta has provided the Little Sisters and Residents not only transportation to the event but also assist in escort and picnic lunch.
Prior to the 12:30 p.m. Mass, the Holy Rosary was recited by churchgoers of all ages. Petition cards were handed out and diligently collected as they will be brought to Lourdes come April by the Order of Malta during their annual Pilgrimage.
The Most Reverend Jose H. Gomez officiated the Mass, concelebrated by over a dozen priests and deacons. Prayers of healing and strength were offered to heal the body and also the mind and soul of those who are sick . Through the Sacrament of Anointing, the grace of the Holy Spirit comforts and strengthens the soul of the sick person. Hands of caregivers were blessed with Holy Oils as well. Everyone joined in prayer asking our Blessed Mother’s intercession for interior and physical healing to all whom we love and pray for.
As the priest blessed everyone with the Holy Water, it was very symbolic of spiritual washing through faith and prayers.
After Mass, we all got a bottle of Holy Water from Lourdes.
