Why Your Contribution Makes a Difference

Trust in Divine Providence
The Little Sisters of the Poor trust completely in God’s Providence, having
been directed by their fondress St. Jeanne Jugan to avoid building an
endowment. Their tradition is to live from donation to donation and to beg
daily in the markets and places of business to provide for the needs of the
aged poor.

Vow of Hospitality
By a vow of hospitality each Little Sister promises God to consecrate
herself exclusively to the service of the elderly in need. An international
congregation of Roman Catholic women, the Little Sisters have served in
Los Angeles since 1905 offering the neediest elderly of every race and
religion a home where they are welcomed as Christ, cared for as family and
accompanied with dignity until God calls them to Himself.

Benefactors are indispensable
Social Security income, pensions, and government aid pay only part of the
cost of caring for the elderly residents. Each year the Sisters must raise
over 60% of their operating costs from gifts, bequests and donated
commodities. Like St. Jeanne Jugan, the Little Sisters recognize that
benefactors are indispensable partners in their mission. And like her, they
pray daily in gratitude for every kindness!
