Msgr. Timothy O’Connell blessed our St. Joseph’s Table at the beginning of the celebration of the feast day of St. Joseph.  St. Jeanne Jugan, chose St. Joseph as the Patron of the Little Sisters of the Poor.

Since he provides so lovingly for the Holy Family, Jeanne believed that he would guide the Little Sisters and be their Protector too. Once she observed the old people in her Home eating dry bread because there was no butter. “But this is the land of butter!” she exclaimed. “Why on earth don’t we ask St. Joseph for some?” She lit a candle in front of his statue.

Days later, an anonymous donor sent a very large amount of butter and all the dishes were filled. Her devotion to this humble saint is part of the spiritual heritage she left to those who follow her example of serving God in the Aged Poor. We continue to confide our needs to his intercession and frequently place written intentions under his statue.
