The delegation from the Chicago Province gathered at 6:30 am for a bus trip to the Los Angeles Convention Center. We were all attendees at this year’s AAHSA (American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging) annual meeting and expo. What a power packed three days! The sessions were both informative and inspiring as we put our minds to planning services for tomorrow’s Residents. All road signs say that the “Baby Boomer” Resident will desire more choices and “one size fits all” will give way to greater flexibility to suit individual preferences. During the conference we explored many answers, both pros and cons, to four key questions:
- What is the right thing to do?
- Why do differences matter?
- Who are the decision makers?
- Who defines age?
We are truly enthused by what we have learned and are looking forward to a rich debate as we plan for the challenges and opportunities of the future.
