In February 1997 Mother Margaret Charles came to San Pedro from the Home in San Francisco She brought with her experience working with their fundraising Auxiliary and thought the same model would work in San Pedro.
In short order a luncheon and fashion show was held, during which Mother Margaret Charles introduced the idea of a fundraising Auxiliary to the attendees. Twenty three women responded and Mother provided them with copies of the by-laws, logo and general information on fund raising from the San Francisco Auxiliary.
This original group has now grown to over 200 members who are currently working on their 16th annual event in support of the work of the Little Sisters. (To see information on all past events click here.)
Recently, Mother Margaret Charles was in San Pedro for her annual Retreat. She now serves as Mother of our home in New Jersey. Her presence prompted a reunion of the founding Auxiliary members who were so delight to visit with Mother again and to see each other.
Seventeen founding members of the original 23 were present for the morning coffee. Among them were many past presidents and some who served multiple terms. The dedication and friendship in the group was very apparent.
We are so fortunate that Mother Margaret Charles and San Francisco shared their ideas with us and launched this amazing organization.
