The theme of our annual Mother’s Day Tea and Fashion Show, held May 18, 2013 was “A Walk in the Gardens”, inspired by the Huntington Gardens and Museum in San Marino. This much anticipated event was very well attended by Residents and their families and the festive environment provided a perfect opportunity to honor our “Mothers”.
The host and narrator of this occasion was Terry Szymczak who scripted the fashion show and provided the fashions worn by our attractive garden models. The models included not only a number of our lovely Residents and employees but also many of our volunteers. One group of models included “Garden Ferries” who wore beautiful summer dresses with colorful flower reefs on their heads and passed out flowers to the audience. Another group of models enjoyed a light Champaign lunch at the Huntington Gardens while sporting comfortable summer casuals. Still another group dressed for a more formal evening event at the Huntington Museum and engaged the audience in a mock Champaign toast.
After the fashion show, everyone enjoyed the beautifully arranged finger foods and delectable deserts lovingly prepared by our kitchen staff. A special thanks to Terry Szymczak for her planning, coaching, and generous contribution of the fashions, the models, the Activities Department for all their planning and decorating, the Maintenance Department for their assistance and the kitchen staff for the wonderful treats.
