We could say that we celebrated Chinese New Year’s twice, since we celebrated it in February then again in March.
We had the happiness of having Sr. Paula, the Little Sister who is the cook in Hong Kong, come to visit us on her way to visit her family in Columbia. Knowing that she would return through San Pedro on her way back to Hong Kong, she told us that she would like to prepare a “Chinese Dinner” for the whole house.
One of our Little Sisters in San Pedro, Sr. Cecilia is from Hong Kong, so the two along with our kitchen staff prepared a delicious meal for our Residents. Sr. Paula had no trouble in communicating with our staff since most of them speak Spanish and she is from Columbia.
We have many Asian Residents, mainly from the Philippines that especially appreciated the meal, including Thomas and Maria who are from Shanghai. They were able to speak to Sister in Chinese and they presented her with a “Red Envelope” in thanksgiving for the lovely meal. Most of the Residents thought it would be a good idea if Sr. Paula could stay here in San Pedro! She didn’t think her Mother Superior would like the idea…
To make the celebration complete, all the Residents received a “Red Envelope”, which they were all very happy to receive.
