At the end of the Chinese New Year’s Celebration is traditionally the Chinese Lantern Festival. We have the pleasure of having the “Chinese Alliance” in the Los Angeles Area. They promote the deep Chinese Culture, teaching their children the richness of the Chinese culture. Since it was during the time of the Chinese New Year’s, most of the performers wore red and gold, the tradition is that they will have a prosperous New Year!
Many of those who performed were young people who have learned the different instruments of their Chinese Culture. Some have studied in China, to perfect their skills, musical instruments that have been played for over 2,000 years, which have been passed down from one generation to another.
In the orchestra, there was another instrument, the Chinese “Pipa”, which is a four stringed lute. This instrument dates back to 2,000 years.
The “Guzheng” is like zither, dates back to about 2,500 years, and takes much skill to play. There was an orchestra which had five “Guzheng” in the opening of the program. Later in the program a young lady of about 10 years old played with much talent.
One of the last to perform was “Laura”, who has performed for us before; in this program she played the “Erhu”, which is a two string fiddle. Her costume was beautiful!
Also in our program were some small children, who sang and danced to everyone’s delight!
We are so happy that these very gifted people share their talent with us. Our Residents truly enjoyed their show.
