“Lourdes Day” has become an annual event at our Home in San Pedro with the Knights of Malta. The Knights and Dames of Malta (Knights and Dames of Malta of St. John of Jerusalem of Rhodes and of Malta) are men and women who are dedicated to “upholding human dignity and for the care for people in need” and were established in 1048. We have been very blessed to have a connection with the Knights of Malta for many years.
“Lourdes Day” began with the blessing of hands for those in the service of the Lord. We gathered together in our “Garden Chapel” where the Knights and Dames of Malta met along with the Little Sisters, the Association of Jeanne Jugan and many staff members (including Nurses Assistants, Kitchen staff and Housekeepers). Fr. Jacob Hsieh, our Chaplain blessed the hands of all that “we will serve the sick with tender charity.”
After the “Blessing of Hands”, we went to our main Chapel for the Stations of the Cross with St. Bernadette and Mary; followed by the Rosary and the Mass of the Anointing celebrated by Msgr. Sal Pilato and assisted by our Chaplain, Fr Jacob Hsieh.
Following the Mass, the Knights and Dames of Malta served our Residents a dinner which they prepared for us. We are always very grateful for their generosity to us.
