Once a year we celebrate our Residents by having something special. We chose the Feast of Sts. Joachim and Ann who were the grandparents of Jesus, the parents of Mary. When thinking out what to do for this day, we decided on a “Carnival” which would consist of games, food and much fun.
The different departments were asked to take care of different booths. The kitchen took care of the food; and many of the games were hosted by such departments at the housekeeping with a ball toss with footballs; the Physical Therapy beach ball toss; Human Resources with the Horseshoe toss; and the Development Director with a photo booth.
Tickets were given when the Residents won at the different games and a booth for the prizes had a great display of different prizes! Some Residents went to see what prizes were there and what they wanted to win and worked for certain prizes. Then they went back to the games to get more tickets.
Between the tickets and the prizes they went for hot dogs, nachos, ice cream and “Australian potatoes”. It was nice to watch Residents just enjoying one another’s company and the many volunteers that were there helped to animate the conversations.
Also set up outside was B.J. the D.J. who played some great music as everyone went from place to place. There were a few times a whole group of Staff and Residents started singing and dancing. All in all, much fun was enjoyed by many!
